How to extract audio from a video

1
Upload your video
Click the upload area or drag and drop your video file. Supports MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI and MKV. Your file stays entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to any server.
2
Choose your format and quality
Select MP3 for a universal, smaller file that plays anywhere. Choose WAV if you need a lossless copy for editing. For MP3, 192 kbps is a great balance of quality and file size.
3
Extract and download
Click Extract Audio. The first use loads FFmpeg.wasm (~30 seconds). After that, extraction is very fast. Download your audio file when done — no watermark, ever.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No — everything runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm). Your video never leaves your device and no data is stored or transmitted anywhere.

Will the audio quality be reduced?

For MP3 output, the audio is re-encoded at your chosen bitrate (192 kbps by default). This is high quality and virtually indistinguishable from the original for most uses. For WAV output, the audio is extracted without any re-encoding — it's a perfect lossless copy of the original audio track.

What if my video has no audio track?

If the video has no audio track, the extraction will fail and you'll see an error message. This can happen with screen recordings, some animated videos, or videos that were previously muted.

Which format should I choose — MP3 or WAV?

Choose MP3 if you want to share the audio, play it on any device, or save space — it's universally compatible and much smaller. Choose WAV if you plan to edit the audio in a DAW or need a lossless copy for professional use. A typical 3-minute MP3 at 192 kbps is around 4MB; the same clip as WAV might be 30MB.

Can I extract audio from just part of a video?

This tool extracts the full audio track. If you only need audio from a specific portion, first trim your video to that range using our Video Trimmer, then extract the audio from the trimmed clip.
