Frequently asked questions

How much will my video be compressed?

It depends on the source video and compression level. Videos that were already heavily compressed (like downloaded social media clips) won’t shrink as much as raw camera footage. As a rough guide: Light compression gives 70–85% of the original size, Balanced gives 40–60%, and Heavy can get down to 15–35%. Downscaling the resolution has a large additional impact.

Will the video quality be affected?

Yes — compression always involves some quality trade-off. At Light and Balanced levels the difference is hard to notice on most screens. At Heavy compression you may see some blocky artefacts in fast-moving scenes or complex backgrounds. The output is H.264 MP4 which is highly compatible and efficient.

Should I downscale the resolution?

Downscaling has a dramatic effect on file size. A 1080p video downscaled to 720p is roughly 44% fewer pixels, which typically results in 50–60% smaller files. If the video is going to be watched on a phone or embedded small on a website, 720p is often indistinguishable from 1080p. For social media sharing, 720p is usually sufficient.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No — everything runs locally using WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm). Your video never leaves your device and no data is stored or transmitted anywhere.

Why is processing slow on long videos?

Compression requires re-encoding every frame of the video, which is computationally intensive. Processing time scales with video length, resolution, and your device’s CPU speed. A 10-minute 1080p video may take several minutes to compress on a laptop.
