Frequently asked questions
What bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps is the right choice for most uses — music playback, podcasts, video soundtracks. It’s transparent for most listeners and keeps file sizes reasonable. Use 320 kbps if you’re archiving music or working with audio you’ll edit further. Use 128 kbps for voice recordings, interviews, or when you need the smallest possible file.
Will the MP3 quality be as good as the original audio?
MP3 is a lossy format, so some audio data is discarded during encoding. At 192 kbps or above, the difference is inaudible to most listeners under normal playback conditions. If the original video used a low-bitrate audio track (common in compressed social media exports), the MP3 output quality is limited by the source — re-encoding at 320 kbps won’t recover detail that wasn’t there in the original.
What’s the difference between this and the Audio Extractor tool?
The Audio Extractor gives you more format options — you can extract as MP3, WAV, AAC, or OGG. This tool is focused specifically on MP3 output with bitrate control, which makes it simpler for the most common use case. If you need WAV or AAC output, use the Audio Extractor instead.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No — everything runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm). Your video never leaves your device and no data is stored or transmitted anywhere.
What if my video has no audio track?
If the video file has no audio track, the conversion will fail with an error. Silent videos — screen recordings captured without a microphone, or videos that have been muted — contain no audio data to extract. You can verify whether a video has audio by checking if the video player shows a volume control and plays sound.
Which browsers are supported?
The Video to MP3 converter works in any modern browser supporting WebAssembly and SharedArrayBuffer: Chrome 92+, Edge 92+, Firefox 90+, and Safari 15.2+.
