Frequently asked questions
What aspect ratio should I use for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts?
All three platforms prefer 9:16 vertical video at 1080×1920. If your original video is landscape (16:9), this tool will center-crop it to 9:16 — you may want to adjust the Y offset if the most important content isn't centered vertically in the frame.
What aspect ratio should I use for YouTube?
YouTube's native player is 16:9. If your footage is already 16:9, no cropping is needed. Use 16:9 here to crop a taller or wider video down to fit YouTube's standard format cleanly.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No — everything runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm). Your video never leaves your device and no data is stored or transmitted anywhere.
What does the X and Y offset do?
The X offset controls how far from the left edge the crop starts; Y controls how far from the top. When you pick a preset ratio, the tool automatically centers the crop. Use custom mode or manually adjust these values to shift the crop window to capture exactly what you want in the frame.
Will cropping reduce my video quality?
Cropping alone doesn't reduce quality — it just removes pixels outside the crop area. If you also resize the output to a smaller width, the video will be re-encoded at that lower resolution. For the best quality, set output width to "Keep cropped size" and only resize if you need a smaller file.
Which browsers are supported?
The Video Crop & Resize tool works in any modern browser supporting WebAssembly and SharedArrayBuffer: Chrome 92+, Edge 92+, Firefox 90+, and Safari 15.2+.
