Frequently asked questions

Will muting the video affect the picture quality?

No — we use stream copy mode which removes the audio stream without touching the video stream at all. The video is not re-encoded, so there is absolutely zero quality loss and processing is very fast regardless of file size.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No — everything runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm). Your video never leaves your device and no data is stored or transmitted anywhere.

Why would I want to mute a video?

Common reasons include: removing background noise or unwanted audio before sharing, preparing a video to add new music or voiceover in an editor, removing copyrighted music before uploading to social media, creating a silent loop for websites or presentations, and stripping private conversation audio from screen recordings.

Can I add different audio after muting?

This tool only removes audio — it doesn’t add new audio. To add a new soundtrack, download your silent video then use a video editor like DaVinci Resolve or CapCut to combine it with your new audio file.

What format is the output?

The output is always MP4. The video stream is copied exactly as-is from your original file, so the quality, resolution, and frame rate are identical to the source.
